Why the shop colour looks wrong on your wall
You pick a card under shop lights, next to forty others. It looks perfect. On the wall, it is wrong.
The paint hasn’t changed; the light, sample size and surroundings have. A 50 millimetre chip on white card behaves nothing like four walls beside floorboards and a window full of Perth sky.

Exterior colour is a heat decision too
Inside, colour is about looks. Outside in Perth, it is also about heat. Dark colours absorb far more sun, heating west-facing walls and the rooms behind them. They also fade faster under UV.
Charcoal and black still look superb on Perth homes. Choose them knowingly, with UV-stable pigments rated for the exposure and heat-reflective coatings on walls in full sun.
For Federation and interwar homes, like many in Subiaco and Claremont, we look at period palettes that suit the architecture.

Because nearly everything around it has changed. In the shop, you see a tiny chip under artificial light. At home, the colour covers whole walls, lit by Perth daylight and next to floors and furniture that reflect their own colour. That is why we test large samples on your walls.
It is normally included when you go ahead with a quoted painting job. Getting the colour right suits us too, because repainting a room you dislike helps nobody. Standalone consultations, for when you are not yet ready to book work, are quoted separately.
Mid-tone colours in UV-stable pigment systems hold up best. Very dark colours fade faster and absorb much more heat on west-facing walls and roofs. You can still choose charcoal or black. Just use a coating rated for the exposure, and consider heat-reflective products on sun-exposed surfaces.
Fewer than most people expect. Inside, one main wall colour, a ceiling white, a trim colour and one or two accents is plenty. Outside, a body, trim and feature or door colour usually works. Busy-looking houses are far more often over-coloured than under-coloured.
Usually, yes. We scan a clean chip of the existing paint and match it closely. But wall paint fades, so matching the wall differs from matching the original formula. Another brand's tint base can also look slightly different over large areas, so we test on site first where it matters.
