Painters in Claremont for old and new work

Claremont has a strong mix of Federation and interwar homes, many of them extended or renovated. So a lot of our work here is part-repaints: blending a new extension into the original house so it reads as one.

Original frontages often have timber fretwork, gable detail and turned verandah posts. Where earlier repaints have clogged or hidden that detail, we scrape it back and pick it out again. Older paint is tested for lead before any sanding starts.

Colour is often the hardest part. Our colour consultation helps you pick a scheme that suits the era of the house. For heritage prep in more detail, see our exterior house painting page.

We can also paint shopfronts along Bay View Terrace, plus homes in Mount Claremont, Swanbourne, Karrakatta and Peppermint Grove.

Where old meets new

Extension matching
New render or plaster is sealed and painted to sit evenly beside the original finish.
Period detail brought back
Fretwork, gables and verandah posts scraped clean and picked out in colours that suit the house.
Care with older paint
Paint from before the 1970s may contain lead. We test it first and keep dust to a minimum during prep.

Questions about character repaints

Yes. We seal new render or plaster first, because fresh surfaces absorb paint unevenly. Where possible, we then paint the old and new walls together so the colour and sheen match. Painting only the new section rarely blends perfectly, and we will tell you if a full elevation is the better choice.

Yes. Every older home gets the same careful prep, with lead testing and hand work around original detail. If your home is heritage listed, check with the Town of Claremont before changing exterior colours or materials. We are happy to work to any conditions they set.

Federation homes often suit deeper tones with contrasting trim, such as reds, greens and creams. Interwar homes tend to sit well with softer, lighter schemes. We can test sample colours on your walls before you decide, so you see them in real light.

In most cases, yes. We can start from 7am and work one section at a time, so you keep trading. Times are agreed with you and your landlord before we begin. Wet paint areas are marked off and kept tidy for customers.
