Painting Questions, Answered

How much does it cost to paint a house in Perth?

Perth interior work typically runs $20 to $45 per square metre, and exterior $25 to $55, depending on access, substrate and how much preparation the surface needs. A full interior repaint of a three-bedroom home commonly lands between $5,000 and $9,000. Those are market ranges, not a quote.

How long does exterior paint last in Perth?

Less time than the tin suggests. Perth carries one of the highest UV loads of any Australian capital, and coastal suburbs add salt spray. Preparation and coating choice separate a finish that fails in two or three years from one that holds for ten.

Do painters have to be registered in Western Australia?

Yes. Under the Building Services (Registration) Act 2011, anyone contracting painting work valued over $1,000 in the prescribed areas of WA must be a registered painting contractor with the Building Services Board. You can check any painter against Building and Energy’s public register before you hire them, and you should.

When is the best time of year to paint in Perth?

Autumn and spring. Summer surface temperatures can push paint to flash off before it levels properly, and the June to August wet closes the window on exterior work. Interior work runs year round.

Do I need to move out while you paint?

No. Interior work uses low-odour systems and dust control, and rooms are staged so you keep using the house. Furniture is covered, floors are protected, and the site is cleaned before we leave each day.

What preparation is included in the quote?

Washing, filling, sanding and priming as the surface requires, plus any repairs we flag before starting. Preparation is itemised in the written quote rather than treated as an extra that appears later.

Can you paint a strata or commercial property outside business hours?

Yes. Offices, retail and apartment complexes are staged around trading hours and resident access. Common areas, stairwells and car parks are sequenced so the building stays usable while the work runs.

How long does a repaint take?

A three-bedroom interior is usually three to five working days. A full exterior depends on substrate, access and how much repair the surface needs. Either way, the expected duration is written into your quote.

Do you give free quotes?

Yes, free and in writing, across the Perth metro area. Most quotes come back within 48 hours, and the quoted price is the price. No variations mid-job.

Which exterior colours last best in Perth?

Light neutrals, warm whites, soft greys and muted earth tones. They reflect heat and resist UV fading better than saturated darks, which lose depth fastest on north and west elevations.

Do you paint rendered and limestone walls?

Yes, and they need different systems. Limestone in particular needs a breathable coating so moisture can move out of the stone. Sealing it with the wrong product traps water and causes spalling.

What areas of Perth do you cover?

The metropolitan area generally, from our base in Canning Vale, six days a week. Coastal, western, northern and south-eastern suburbs are all regular territory.
