Industrial coating is about protection, not appearance

On a factory or plant site, paint is a maintenance system. It stops steel corroding, marks hazards and protects surfaces that get hosed down and knocked about.

So the specification is surface preparation, primer system and dry film thickness, not sheen and colour. Get it wrong and steel corrodes under a film that looks fine from the ground.

Industrial sites also run on shutdown windows, fixed months ahead and shared with other trades. Painting fits inside them or it does not happen.

What our industrial painters in Perth coat

Four categories cover most industrial scopes, and each one is a different specification.

Structural steel
Beams, columns, walkways and platforms. Old coating and corrosion are removed to a set standard, then a primer, intermediate and topcoat are built to a nominated film thickness.
Plant rooms and process areas
Wash-down, humid and chemical-exposure areas. A plant room pressure washed weekly needs a different system from a dry store, often epoxy or polyurethane where acrylic would fail.
Factory walls, ceilings and high bay
Large areas at height, usually sprayed during shutdowns or weekends. Overspray in a working facility is serious, so containment often costs more than the coating.
Line marking, hazard and safety coatings
Hazard marking, bollards and exclusion zones around plant, in products that survive forklift traffic and cleaning, set out to your safety plan.

Working inside a shutdown window

Industrial programmes are built backwards from a fixed date that will not move.

01 Inspection and coating survey
We assess coating condition, substrate and exposure. We work to your specification, or recommend one in writing.
02 Programme against the shutdown
Scoped to the hours available and sequenced around other trades, with a realistic view of what can be cured before restart.
03 Compliance and access
SWMS, a site-specific risk assessment, insurance certificates and the access permits your site requires, submitted before mobilisation.
04 Preparation, coating, verification
Preparation to standard, coats in the specified sequence and film thickness checked where required. Documented for your asset maintenance records.

Why industrial quotes vary so widely

Two quotes for the same scope can differ by a factor of two. The reason is almost always preparation and film build.

Preparation is most of the cost. Removing failed coating and corrosion properly is slow, and it is where cheap quotes save money. Coating over poor preparation fails from underneath.

Film thickness is a real number. Dry film thickness (DFT) sets service life. A thin system looks the same on the day and fails years early. Ask how DFT will be checked.

Access and containment are often underpriced. Scaffold, EWPs and overspray control can cost more than the coating. They are the first things left out of an optimistic quote.

Send your specification with the enquiry, or we will set out in writing what the surfaces need.

Storage and logistics rather than process?

High-bay walls, dock areas and floor line marking in storage buildings are covered by our warehouse painting service.

Industrial painting questions

By surface preparation standard, primer and topcoat system, and a nominated dry film thickness, not sheen and colour. If you have a specification, we quote against it and say plainly which parts we deliver ourselves. If not, we assess the substrate and exposure and recommend a system in writing.

Yes, with a programme built backwards from the restart date. Shutdown windows are fixed and shared with other trades, so we plan only what can be prepared, coated and cured in the hours available. We would rather reduce the scope than overrun into production.

Yes, with the access method set at inspection. Beams, columns and platforms usually need scaffold or an elevated work platform, with the matching permits and competencies. On a live facility, overspray containment is usually needed too, and it should be priced with the access, not added later.

Yes. We coat hazard markings, bollards, walkways, traffic lanes and exclusion zones. These are safety items as much as coatings, so the specification should match your site safety plan, not a generic colour scheme. Products also need to survive forklift traffic and your cleaning regime.
